Tire Wear Patterns

A tire worn in the center, not on the shoulders, has been overinflated. An underinflated tire wears on its outer edges. Incorrect alignment angles and worn suspension components also result in premature tire wear.

The camber angle is the inward and outward tilt of the top of the tire as viewed from the front of the vehicle. Too much positive (+) camber causes the outside tread of the tire to wear. Too much negative (-) camber causes the inside of the tire tread to wear prematurely. Worn struts, shocks, or incorrect toe results in tire cupping. Cupped tires cause a growl that increases with vehicle speed.
